Throughout 2019, BIG and the Public VR Lab will continue to host Arrival VR interviews.

All Brookline and Boston area residents are invited to come to BIG’s studios to share their family’s migration stories on select dates each month. Stories will be recorded and shared via 360 video, virtual reality and shot with DSLRs for high quality distribution on BIG’s community cable and YouTube channels.

BIG staff will be conducting one-on-one interviews with each participant to explore the details of when they or their family members immigrated to the United States and their experience of traveling to and building a life in the United States. The final projects will be uploaded to Brookline community cable and our YouTube channels. They will also be organized as a virtual reality/360 storytelling project.

To participate in this project, all Brookline community members are welcome to sign up for a 20 minute time slot between 2:00-6:00pm on the following dates: March 26th. Participants can sign up via this form. Brookline residents are strongly encouraged to participate!

Whether you have recently immigrated to this country or have family roots that can be traced back to the 1600’s, you are welcome to participate. Furthermore, you may choose to share stories from one specific relative, the history from the different sides of your family, and anything in between. We realize that each family has a rich and unique story, and welcome the diversity of stories from across our community.

BIG will film each of these interviews and create an individual video from each participant, and also use all the footage of each person sharing their stories to create a longer compilation video with portions of each contribution.

This series is an extension of the Public VR Lab’s Arrival VR project, which is a national VR filmmaking collaborative effort centered on the American diaspora and migration to the U.S from 1620 to 2018. This is the first national collaboration project around 360 filmmaking, immersive journalism, and community storytelling. The Public VR Lab, a project of BIG, is promoting a Community VR/XR movement that facilitates public dialogue about XR storytelling and accessibility.
