BIG is looking for interns for Fall 2017! Join the BIG team at our state-of-the-art facility in Brookline. Gain valuable hands-on experience, learn from a fun and supportive staff, and be a part of an active non-profit organization
Interns work 8-12 hours a week, but we can be flexible for college course requirements. We are looking for interns who are interested in gaining experience in filmmaking, cinematography, graphic design, marketing/community engagement, journalism, digital storytelling, education, audio, Unity programming, VR/360 productions animation, set design and using DSLRs.

VR/360
As a next generation community media nonprofit, we are seeking to educate, inform, and provide a new kind of accessibility in the newest medium now available to and by the community. Become a part of BIG’s new Virtual Reality and 360 video work in this brand new internship opportunity. You will participate in aspects of brainstorming, creating and editing our own original community-based content in 360, VR and AR immersive content.

Qualifications:
•Undergraduate or graduate student studying Virtual Reality, game design, film, video production, or a related field
•Experience with 360 video or virtual reality
•Experience with editing software and/or Unity software
•Ability to work alone and in a team
•The ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
•Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours


Production Internship
Learn how to successfully incubate and produce stimulating content by helping BIG facilitate diverse community dialogues through media conception. As a production intern, you will discover the world of media production through studio production, on-location shoots, audio and lighting set-up, dressing sets and producing and editing footage in Adobe Premiere. Participate on exciting projects and build an impressive demo reel.

Qualifications:

•Undergraduate or Graduate student in Visual Arts, Media Technology, Production, Film Studies, Broadcast Journalism or related field
•Video production experience
•Knowledge of editing software (Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut)
•Ability to work alone and in a team
•Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
•Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours

Responsibilities Include:
•Assist with field productions: set-up audio, lighting, video equipment and operate camera
•Assist with studio productions: set-up cameras, lighting, audio, sets and direct production
•Edit productions in Adobe Premiere: create graphics, music, master audio, color correction, export, compress, and create DVDs


Unity Development
BIG is looking for an intern with basic Unity skills to help support new interactive projects, such as game design and development, and 360/VR films. This is a new area of work for us and we are interested in providing resources to help the right person grow and create at BIG. An interest in social justice and/or education content is helpful. BIG offers a creative environment with filmmaking professionals and lots of room to learn and grow in VR filmmaking and 360 video.

Qualifications:
•Undergraduate or graduate student studying Virtual Reality, game design, film, video production, or a related field
•Experience with Unity software
•Experience with 360 video or virtual reality
•Ability to work alone and in a team
•The ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
•Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours

Responsibilities Include:
•Assist with brainstorming ideas for new 360 and VR content
•Research and provide advice on best practices and technologies for creating 360 and VR films
•Assist with VR and 360 productions: set-up audio, lighting, equipment and operate 360 camera
•Create and edit 360 and VR content using Unity software


Journalism
Journalism interns are part of BIG’s recently developed Community Journalism Program, a partnership between BIG staff and members who report and generate local news and stories. Interns participate in all aspects of story-production including hunting down story leads, filming, and editing content for BIG’s television and YouTube channels.

Qualifications:
•Undergraduate or graduate student studying journalism, communications or a related field
•Experience gathering and developing stories in any form of media
•Experience with editing software
•Ability to work alone and in a team
•Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
•Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours
Responsibilities Include:
•Produce hyper-local news segments, collaborating with members, staff, and the community
•Film community events, b-roll, and interviews for segments
•Edit segments in Adobe Premiere to be aired on TV and online platforms
•Provide customer service through greeting members and answering phones
•Assist with basic office responsibilities such as greeting guests, phones, event set-up


Graphic Arts – Graphic design and animation
As a graphic arts intern, you will gain direct experience in an innovative environment creating promotional material for our active non-profit organization. Projects include print, web and motion graphics for programs, events and various television shows at our station. You will collaborate with the our team, partners and clients to produce marketing material that will positively contribute to your portfolio.

Qualifications:
•Undergraduate or graduate student studying graphic design or animation
•Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
•Experience with editing and/or motion software
•Ability to work alone and in a team
•Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
•Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours
Responsibilities Include:
•Create promotional print materials such as flyers, banners, brochures, etc.
•Design and produce TV graphics and motion graphics for television productions
•Design web graphics and edit web pages for our website
•Assist with television productions when needed
•Work with community organizations in development of
marketing materials for workshops and events


Public Relations/Social Media
Under our Manager of Engagement, you will help advance the voice and presence of BIG throughout the city and across various media channels to increase brand awareness and community engagement. As a public relations intern, you create content for BIG’s online blogs/social media accounts that generate buzz for upcoming programs and organizational initiatives, operate a physical presence at public events, and help organize and facilitate BIG projects and events.

Qualifications:
•Undergraduate or graduate student studying communications, PR, or a related field
•Experience with editing software is a plus
•Ability to work alone and in a team
•Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
•Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours
Responsibilities Include:
•Organize and operate BIG’s booth at public events
•Assist with event planning for monthly awareness events, such as flyering, making
phone calls, sending thank you cards, setting up the space, greeting guests, etc.
•Collaborate with staff to enhance membership, donor, and volunteer development
•Maintain BIG’s social media presence and generate buzz for upcoming programs, projects, initiatives
•Assist with field and studio productions as assigned
•Create promo videos for organizations and distribute to a variety of news and social media sources
