Brookline Interactive Group is looking for interns! We are looking for Production, Podcasting and TV Programming and Social Media Interns!

Work with state-of-the-art traditional and emerging media equipment! Gain valuable hands-on experience, learn from a fun and supportive staff, and be a part of an active non-profit organization with a focus on community-based dialogue, media and engagement! We’re excited to support interns and their goals around collaborative workflow processing, project management, and mentor interns as they move to full-time professional work. Both remote and partial in-person options are available, but you must be vaccinated to work in-person.

Interns work 8-15 hours a week for a total of 200 hours, but we can be flexible for college course requirements. BIG is open to hiring anyone looking for hands-on work experience including youth, seniors or other people not currently enrolled in school or recently graduated, but we do expect a high-level of competence and dedication to each intern position regardless of needing school or program-credit.

 Summer

Salaries are not offered for internships (in special cases where funding is available, we are able to offer modest stipends) but benefits include:

Podcast Internship

Looking to build your audio production and editing skills? We are looking for interns with a passion for interviewing, creating stories and sound recording/editing. Get experience in producing stimulating content by helping BIG create community-based media projects in and around the Brookline area. 

As a podcast intern, you will discover the world of podcasting production through our intern-run podcast series, Creative Brookline. All productions will be either recorded remotely or socially distanced, and all COVID safety measures will be observed. 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in Audio Production, Media Technology/Production, Broadcast Journalism or related field
  • Audio production experience
  • Knowledge of audio editing software (Adobe Audition, Garageband or Audacity)
  • Experience with production workflows, including research, scripting, recording, and editing
  • Self-motivated to explore new technologies, programs, and techniques
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Research possible subjects, create contact lists and coordination with podcast guests for production and marketing
  • Develop script and interview questions to create engaging content
  • Record and edit interviews with guests
  • Help create basic marketing strategy for each episode
  • Work directly with BIG staff and submit work for approval all projects, including pre- and post-production work
  • Maintain brand identity consistency for all Brookline Interactive Group projects

Production Internship

Get experience in producing stimulating content by helping BIG facilitate diverse community dialogues through media projects. As a production intern, you will discover the world of media production through studio production, on-location shoots, audio and lighting set-up, dressing sets and producing and editing footage in Adobe Premiere. Build an impressive demo reel working on community-based projects.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in Visual Arts, Media Technology, Production, Film Studies, Broadcast Journalism or related field
  • Video production experience
  • Knowledge of editing software (Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut)
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with field productions: set-up audio, lighting, video equipment and operate camera
  • Assist with studio productions: set-up cameras, lighting, audio, sets and direct production
  • Edit productions in Adobe Premiere: create graphics, music, master audio, color correction, export, compress, and create DVDs
  • Produce promos and PSAs as directed by staff

TV Programming and Social Media Intern

We are looking for motivated, creative, and outgoing applicants to enrich our marketing and social media campaigns to help us create awareness and increase viewership for our local Brookline cable channels. As an intern, you would also assist staff in raising awareness about our other media programs, including our classes, internships, and tools through our social media platforms, cable TV channels and newsletters. This role is instrumental in increasing our presence and gaining visibility for our service offerings for prospective members, viewers, donors, and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student studying communications, PR, marketing, or a related field
  • Experience with marketing, social media strategies or communications projects outside the classroom
  • Experience presenting and communicating design ideas and project goals
  • Ability to work within branding guidelines, and create messaging within the “voice” of the organization
  • Experience with production workflows, including shooting, editing and creating graphics
  • Self-motivated to explore new technologies, programs, and techniques
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Use direct marketing and social media marketing tools to increase BIG’s audience
  • Help develop audiences for individual and block programming on BIG’s Channels
  • Create media promos and distribute to a variety of news and social media sources
  • Cultivate and create content for BIG’s online blogs/social media accounts that generate buzz for upcoming programs and organizational initiatives
  • Contribute to and help manage social channels, schedule and monitor posts, review analytics to inform strategy, and engage with our community members
  • Assist with event planning for monthly awareness events
  • Work directly with staff and submit for approval all campaign ideas and posts
  • Maintain identity consistency for Brookline Interactive and Public VR Labs identities
  • Although work is remote and generally very flexible, occasional evenings and weekends for special events may be required

Our fellowships include an intensive four-month mentorship with local media arts innovators, as well as full access to the resources at Brookline Interactive and the Public VR Lab (the first publicly-funded VR/XR lab in the United States) including our technology library (and access to our extended equipment library from Boston VR and regional HMD reps), XR media lab, audio and production studios, workspace and staff support.
