BIG and the Public VR Lab are pleased to offer several classes in virtual reality​

Intro to Unity

Unity is a powerful and widely-used game engine for developing VR experiences, as well as video games for consoles, mobile devices, and websites. This workshop will introduce you to the basic functions and concepts of Unity, while creating code (in C#) that integrates with its various systems. *As a bonus, you can stay to participate in the Boston VR Dev Jam in the same building after class from 2pm-6pm! $8 donation accepted for pizza and snacks.
Required knowledge: Computer basics: how to use a mouse, some typing skills, able to use an internet browser.
What you will learn: basics of a game engine; fundamentals of Programming in C#; to create dynamic environments, physics-based character controller, & customized materials & asset creation and destruction; GUI and UX basics, including menus and buttons; how to build an executable of your game.

360 Filmmaking

Instead of only capturing what’s in front of you, in just one frame, new cameras allow for a full 360 degree view of the world you are documenting. In this class, you will gain a basic understanding of shooting with a 360 camera, editing footage in Premiere, and uploading content to YouTube.

Intro to Virtual Reality

Explore virtual reality in this free introductory class. We will discuss the different types of VR devices & headsets, the software and example VR applications to get a firm understanding of VR technology. All participants will get an opportunity to experience a variety of VR experiences. All ages welcome, but children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. FREE, EVERY WEDNESDAY, 6-8pm

Monthly Boston VR Dev Jam

Come join us for a whole day of making AR & VR with other devs at Brookline Interactive Group (BIG) under the auspices of their Public VR Lab (http://publicvrlab.com/), a truly excellent resource for the community. The big room for unstructured unplanned hacking will be open from 10:00am - 6:00pm. We'll use your $8 fee for snacks and a pizza lunch.

2nd Saturdays of each month from 10am-6pm

Tuition: FREE (but we ask for $8 to cover pizza and drinks if you wish to partake!)

Advanced Editing in Adobe Premiere

Premiere is an industry-leading software used throughout the film industry for editing video. In this two-session workshop you will edit and create your own short video after learning the basic concepts of editing, including cutting video, adding and manipulating audio, and creating an opening and ending graphics.

Intro to Adobe After Effects

Adobe After Effects is a powerful, creative and exciting animation tool in today’s media culture. This workshop will introduce you to the basic functions and concepts of animating in today's most popular motion graphics program. Join BIG for this workshop where you will create an animated logo.

Intro to DSLR

This crash course provides participants with a basic understanding of using DSLR cameras to create cinematically beautiful video. Learn about aspect ratio versus resolution, composition, types of camera movements, angles, and exposure theory. You will also learn the basics of operating DSLR cameras, plus lighting and audio, including tips and tricks to optimize a variety of settings and circumstances to film high-quality footage.

DIY Beats!

This course will introduce you to the basics of creating music for media, including spotting a cue, an introduction to loops, synths, and samples, as well as recording and mixing and syncing your beats to visual media.
