Over the past two years, BIG has been developing in-house capacity and expertise in VR, AR and 360 through our project, the Public VR Lab, which was co-founded with our sister station, NCTV, in Northampton, MA.
Since we can’t do personal tours and trainings for all of you who have requested them from BIG, we’re teaming up with ACMNE to offer a specialized professional development training for community media practitioners on Friday, March 23rd, 2018 which will then be followed by a VR happy hour party at which attendees can enjoy VR/AR/360 demos, beverages, snacks, and a music!

This event is thanks to the support and collaboration from the Alliance for Community Media Northeast Region (ACM-NE). The fee for this workshop funds our staff, equipment, handouts, and the alcohol permit and bartender for the party, as well as helping to subsidize Public VR Lab Toolkits and trainings to media centers without full funding.

360 Filmmaking & Storytelling Training
12:30-4:45 pm

Well-designed virtual reality (VR, AR, 360) experiences can invoke a powerful sense of wonder, empathy and have a transformational effect on the viewer as the full frame of VR allows for an experiential story and an immersive experience of the viewer. In this half-day, hands-on training, you will learn how to use these emerging media tools to create immersive stories using 360 video for your community and media center.

This half-day workshop will cover the following topics:

~Overview of 360, AR & VR basics
~Examples/use cases of immersive community-based stories in 360 video, VR and AR
~360 Filmmaking: Hands-on exercises using the Nikon Keymission 360 cameras; capturing high-quality footage
~Editing in 360 – learn the basics to get started editing your videos, experimenting with text, transitions, etc.
~Uploading 360 to the web

VR Happy Hour Party: FREE!
5:00-7:00pm
During this fun party, you’ll have the opportunity to demo VR experiences, network with your fellow community media colleagues, and dance to great music.

This training and party are specifically for community media professionals, and is sponsored by a collaboration with the Alliance for Community Media Northeast Region (ACM-NE) so all ACM-NE members will receive a tuition discount for this mini-conference day! Three scholarships will be made available in the case of need for media centers with budgets under $300k.

You are welcome to attend both the training and party, or either. Please complete this form to register for the portion(s) of the event you will be attending. We have a limited number of spots available! Please email Erin Kinney, erin@brooklineinteractive.org with any questions about this event.
