BIG’s high school and college internships, and graduate fellowships (now in its third year) programs support community journalists, artists, producers and students of new and emerging media and communications in both theoretical and practical applications of community media and Community XR, a new field being developed by BIG’s project, the Public VR Lab. Internship candidates are encouraged to apply by sending their resume, highlight reel (if available) and a letter of interest to info@brooklineinteractive.org.

Qualified candidates will receive an interview time in-person at BIG in the first weeks of September.

Graduate student and other returning adult students are encouraged to apply for our fellowship program or our community-based production grants (our third year of the program will be announced in September). All of the opportunities at BIG for internships and fellowships include an exploration into community-based media creation forms; graphic and other forms of communication design, as well as immersive narrative, storytelling, journalism, and documentary. Some fellows and interns choose to focus more on emerging media production, community partnerships, civic engagement techniques and elevating underrepresented voices through media, community programs, and public access.

Our emerging media fellows will create curriculum, research reports, and other field-building guidelines related to the practical aspects of the artistic, technical and social implications of immersive technologies (i.e. 360 video, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and XR (extended reality that can mix different forms of VR technologies).

Our fellowships include an intensive four-month mentorship with local media arts innovators, as well as full access to the resources at Brookline Interactive and the Public VR Lab (the first publicly-funded VR/XR lab in the United States) including our technology library (and access to our extended equipment library from Boston VR and regional HMD reps), XR media lab, audio and production studios, workspace and staff support.

Fellowship and internship candidates in the following areas are encouraged to apply by sending their resume, highlight reel (if available) and a letter of interest to info@brooklineinteractive.org.

Please note: We do not currently have paid internships or fellowships but offer thousands of in-kind resources, training, and equipment to our program participants.
